Our location

The leafy village of Trappeto is a diamond that shines in the heart of the Golfo di Castellammare. It is a traditional corner of Sicily whose fish is famous for its high quality thanks to some particular mediterranean streams.

This wonderful place dates back to the XIVth century, when it belonged to the property of Federico II of Aragon. Then it slowly became a land devoted to agriculture and fishing, with a large range of wines and lemons. It is named after the latin word "Trappetum Cannamelarum" because of the "cannamela" sugar production. The ancient little town, still existing, consisted of poor fishermen houses built around the old "SS. Annunziata" Church (1680).

Trappeto today counts about 3000 inhabitants on a surface of 400 ha but it gained its independence from the near town of Balestrate only in 1954. Its population is proud of the old traditions displayed in the religious ceremonies, in the town celebrations and in the taste of the typical products of this land, such as fish, cheese, ice-cream, cakes, biscuits, olive-oil and so on.

In springtime it is possible to enjoy different particular religious events like the celebration in honour of Saint Giuseppe, Easter, the pilgrimage to the near "Madonna del Ponte" Church. In summertime the town is involved in several ceremonies dedicated to SS. Annunziata, Saint Pio from Pietrelcina, SS.Assunta and in modern entertainments like the performances of actors, musicians, humourists. Every year in its old peer, at about 15th August, the so called "Antenna a Mare" takes place. It is a competition characterised by the mixture of a touching past and a modern touristic present.

Trappeto, in fact, is also a beautiful seaside provided with long and sandy beaches. The water is shining, good for diving and boat cruises. In particular it is possible to reach from its coasts in a short time the fantastic "Faraglioni di Scopello" and the extraordinary natural park called "Riserva dello Zingaro".

Trappeto is about 40 Km far from Palermo and Trapani. From this ideal location tourists can visit lots of natural and artistic sicilian beauties, like for example Segesta ancient theatre, Mount Erice and Trapani salt valley.
